Economic Empowerment Through Homeownership

our mission

Our Mission

We believe that homeownership creates long-term financial and community stability and offers the potential for wealth creation. Domus LLC is a mission-driven organization dedicated to developing and selling high-quality, energy-efficient homes tailored for middle-income earners. Our focus is to address the critical need for affordable workforce housing and empower first-time homebuyers.

Our Approach

Domus specializes in building high-quality and affordable workforce housing designed for households earning between 100% and 120% of the area median income (AMI). Without reliance on federal, state, or municipal subsidies, we address the “missing middle” in homeownership by focusing on this underserved segment of the population.

Domus communities feature desirable amenities and construction techniques akin to luxury condominiums but are offered at prices accessible to middle-income homebuyers. Smaller units ranging from 450 to 600 square feet provide affordable homeownership opportunities while maintaining long-term affordability through market-driven pricing.

The underlying theory of our work is that middle-income housing can be naturally affordable without the need for deed restrictions. We champion efficient, sustainable housing solutions that align with the needs of first-time homebuyers and the middle-income workforce population.

our approach

Experience & Quality

Domus brings together the experience of affordable housing and luxury housing developers. Our team is committed to addressing the housing crisis with innovative strategies for creating affordable homes for middle-income earners.

We pride ourselves on developing homes that integrate seamlessly into existing neighborhoods, meet the needs of middle-income homebuyers, and embrace sustainable design and construction practices. Our portfolio highlights successful developments that prioritize efficiency and affordability.

Domus leverages decades of experience in real estate design, construction, and management. With hundreds of completed projects, we deliver high-quality housing developments that support first-time homebuyers and strengthen communities.

Opportunities

Domus seeks partnerships to expand affordable workforce homeownership opportunities. We actively collaborate with municipalities and businesses to deliver efficient homes that support local communities. By working together, we aim to create affordable housing options for middle-income homebuyers and first-time buyers.

Avesta Housing

Avesta Housing is a nonprofit organization with 50-plus years of experience in affordable housing development and a mission to improve lives and strengthen communities by promoting and providing quality affordable homes for people in need. Avesta’s affordable housing lens includes real estate development, property management, and homeownership.
The organization owns and manages more than 100 affordable housing developments with a total of 3,200 units in Maine and New Hampshire. The portfolio consists of state and federally assisted family and elderly/disabled housing, affordable rent-restricted apartments, mixed-income (affordable and market rate) rental developments, supportive housing for people experiencing long-term homelessness and for the visually impaired, and unrestricted workforce housing.

Avesta’s initiatives range in size from less than a dozen apartments to more than 125. Some of these homes were developed or designed in collaboration with a mission-aligned community partner, a town resident committee, or other constituents. As a result, the Avesta development team has adopted a collaborative design process to ensure the needs of all stakeholders are met.

This collaborative approach underscores the breadth of experience Avesta’s development staff has across various types of developments, including new construction, adaptive reuse, historic renovation, occupied rehabs, mixed-use developments, affordable homeownership, and combinations thereof. Energy-efficient design construction is a key focus of its development team. With a Passive House consultant on staff, all new construction and renovations include strategies to optimize energy efficiency. Over the course of Avesta’s work in sustainable construction, the team has built award-winning Passive House and LEED-certified buildings.
One of Avesta’s greatest strengths is its ability to leverage various and complex funding sources to successfully develop and rehabilitate properties. Its development team possesses agility, creativity, and dedication to seeing an early conceptual idea through to physical completion.
